Liliya Lifanova's work is about the struggle for abstraction.

After a period of unavoidable and essential nostalgia that allowed Liliya to see her own 'origin', she is now interested in non-space, non-identity, and in the persistence of patterns, variants, and symmetries.

The propositions presented by the Existentialist movement and Zen Buddhism 'speak to her condition'.

Liliya Lifanova's (American, born Kyrgyzstan 1983) paintings, handmade sculptural installations and wearables for collaborative participatory videos and performances are positioned at the intersection of fine arts, theater/performance, and film. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, most recently at Gridchinhall in Moscow, Russia and at the Parrish Art Museum, Southampton, NY. She received her MFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been awarded the Fulbright Fellowship for Installation Art. The artist lives and works in New York.
