The video art, photographs, installations and performances of Charlotte Lagro discloses the maker's sharp observatory qualities to the public eye. Staged as well as found situations serve in a complexity of narratives that often is based upon a thorough research in historic events. The human point of view becomes essential throughout the process of concept and making. Stories, some disturbing, unfold. Acted by a mime artist who's visiting the sites of a concentration camp, by a photograph of arrested Nazis at the end of the war, drawn over by children’s hands or acted by a 1970-ies fridge. The stories are close to its listener or viewer, recognizable, sometimes ironic with an existential disturbance.
Charlotte Lagro is based in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Her work has been displayed at Biennial of Photography and Visual Art (BIP) Liège, Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, CIAP Hasselt, SCHUNCK* Heerlen, Galerie Nadja Vilenne in Liège, LOOP Video Art Fair Barcelona, FIAC/Officielle Art Fair Paris, Format Art Space Copenhagen, NCAD Gallery Dublin, Tent Rotterdam, Media Forum Festival Moscow among others. Charlotte holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design. In 2015, she was a resident at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Other residencies include: Cow House Studios, RAVI and the Brain and Emotion Lab of Maastricht University. She won the Hermine van Bers Young Artist Award in 2015.
