OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Our Educational Community Outreach Initiatives strive to create a connection between artists working today and the next generation by cultivating critical thinking, curiosity, creative problem-solving skills, and greater self-esteem through hands-on visual arts experiences. Our fundamental goal is to engage and inspire young artists and art enthusiasts through interactive arts programming. The NARS Foundation collaborates with local schools and organizations to develop educational programs for south Brooklyn children and their families. We welcome any new program ideas, suggestions, and volunteers from the community. For further information please contact education@narsfoundation.org

The Outreach programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and Council Member Alexa Avliés.

For over 6 years, our Free Saturday Family Workshop Program has sought to provide greater accessibility to contemporary arts and to encourage stronger community engagement.

These hands-on workshops are taught by talented teaching artists from around the world. Through access to these contemporary art workshops, we seek to promote inquisitiveness, critical thinking, greater self-esteem, participation, and appreciation of contemporary art. SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

The NARS School Partnership Program provides visual art based cultural enrichment programs at public schools in Brooklyn. In collaboration with the school's K - 12 teachers, these interdisciplinary workshops introduce hands-on creative learning experiences that stimulate visual communication, and promote greater understanding of other perspectives and cultures.

Previously, NARS partnered with P.S. 172 Beacon School of Excellence, to provide an after-school Stop Motion Animation Workshop for grades 4 and 5. Through the program, students actively engage with the Teaching Artist to build a story through art and technology. You can see a selection of works made by participants in the past by clicking here. To learn more about the school partnership program, please email education@narsfoundation.org.

The animation workshops are made possible with the generous support of Con Edison.

GALLERY TOURS

Through Gallery Tours led by NARS Staff and Curators, students have the opportunity to connect with contemporary art and artists through the rotating exhibitions in the NARS Gallery Space. Students have the opportunity to engage in an inquiry-based tour and a hands-on art activity that relates to the work seen at NARS. Open to grades K – 12, please contact education@narsfoundation.org for more information and to set up a tour.
