Artist Statement/ Biography
How can I own the universe? Reflecting on each capacity, capability and threshold value of myself, it is an unreachable destiny and improbable dream. Sanghyun Koh tries to embrace various components of the universe all at once in his pieces of art, constantly observing his physical boundaries. Koh’s paranoia to grasping totality of the world engages scientific sources. He considers “science” is one of the most plausible belief systems in the human community which dares to describe the universe in a so-called objective frame. Koh tests the unfilled gap of axiomatic mythology in science. He is willing to fall into naturalistic fallacy while injecting allegorical values into neutral objects, and his work remains as logically defective products.--
Sanghyun Koh is a sculptor and art experimenter who was born in Seoul, Korea and currently lives and works in the United States. He focuses on how to grasp the totality and complexity of the world and how humanity can be estimated. He completed a BFA and an MFA in sculpture from Seoul National University, and also holds another MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
