Artist Statement/ Biography

Roni Aviv is a conceptual artist whose practice is at the intersection of photography, writing, drawing, and installation. In the process of making, She uses performative gestures to generate a space of psychological processing. Through media and material exploration, aviv plays with the descriptive nature of photography and language to disrupt the perception of common knowledge. she challenges notions of false objectivity and narratives of truth. In her work, the static state of facts is reexamined as objects, images, and words.

Roni Aviv (born 1992) is a visual artist, based in New York. Aviv works with photography, text and installation to give form to a psychological space of re-processing experiences. Aviv holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University and studied photography at Cooper Union and Bezalel Academy of Art. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally. Recent exhibitions include Tiger Strikes Asteroid, NY, Steve Turner Gallery, LA, The Jewish Museum, NY and Indie Gallery, IL. They have recently been published in BOMB, GRANTA, Erev Rav, and Lines Inside by TSA_PDF magazines.
