Artist Statement/ Biography

Roberto Barbosa uses a variety of media to showcase questions of power and identity. His work pushes the boundaries beyond material and form. By combining performances, drawings, photography, video and architectural models, the artist creates portals that communicate statements, that explore both the domestic and public space, reflecting on systems of power and order that exist in the world. The universe of his portals creates alternative narratives of the present and possible futures.

Roberto Barbosa is an interdisciplinary artist, performer and architect from Guadalajara, Mexico, based in Frankfurt, Germany. He received a Master of Arts in Architecture from the Städelschule (2019) and a bachelor in Architecture by the Universidad de Guadalajara (2014), supported by scholarships by the German DAAD and the Universidad de Guadalajara. He worked in cutting edge architectural offices such as MVRDV, Rotterdam and COBE in Copenhagen. Recent shows include Gallery 3AP in Düsseldorf, Kellerkreuzberg in Berlin, and Atelierfrankfurt in Frankfurt. He has exhibited in Germany, Netherlands, United States, Mexico, Finland and Iceland. < BACK
