2020 Season IV
Artist Statement/ Biography
Orr Menirom’s films negotiate the spaces between language, perception, and memory. Often drawing on her experience of moving between cultures and geopolitical contexts, she playfully mixes found footage with self-filmed imagery, while exploring the lines between fact and fiction, personal spaces and collective narrative. The re-editing of found footage becomes a method to examine the influence of digital culture on hierarchies of power through shared authorship.--
Orr Menirom was an artist in residence at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Jan Van Eyck Academy and the International and Curatorial Studios Program (ISCP). She received her MFA from the Film & Video department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has shown at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, The Israeli Center for Digital Art, Houldsworth Gallery, Des-Moines Art Center, Aspect/Ratio Gallery, Expo Chicago, Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, the Israeli Center For Digital Art and Rixc Center for New Media Culture, among other venues.
