2024 Season III

Artist Statement/ Biography

Corriveau draws inspiration from the interconnectedness of human experiences to question existence, exploring fragility, ephemerality, perception, and illusion. Informed by a profound exploration of materiality and light, her still life reflects her interest in consumption's role in shaping cultural identities. Using cheap or disposable objects with colored lighting to reveal optical phenomena, Corriveau portrays obsolescence as sublime and transforms the banal into the sacred with iridescent qualities reminiscent of the digital realm. Through selection, assemblage, photography, and representation in drawing and painting, she conveys a tension between artifice and classical mimetic ideals. Her 'makeup-like' soft pastel techniques are radically feminine while her hyperrealist approach transcends mere replication into a conceptual process, unfolding into spatial explorations and sculptural dimensions.
