2023 Season II
Artist Statement/ Biography
Matilde Søes Rasmussen is a Danish-Swedish visual artist and poet whose work moves freely between photography, filmmaking and writing. For more than a decade she has documented her work as a fashion model in text and image, using her own body and experience almost as a case study. Her practice critically examines topics related to the body, its relation to being sold and the systems of exchange in capitalism, often using (dark) humor and irony as a means to engage with the public. Her work takes its form in publication, installation, film screenings and live text readings.--
In 2021 Matilde Søes Rasmussen published her first book Unprofessional which was shortlisted for a Photo-Text Book Award at Les Rencontres D’Arles in France, and named as Photobook of The Year by PhotoEye and Nearest Truth. In 2023 she opened solo shows at Centrum För Fotografi in Stockholm and Bladr in Copenhagen. Her work has been shown internationally, and she has participated in residencies in Berlin, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Leipzig. She has received grants from The Danish Arts Foundation, The Swedish Arts Council and The Swedish Authors’ Fund. Rasmussen holds a degree in Fine Art Photography from HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design in Gothenburg, Sweden.
