Artist Statement/ Biography

Martín Pelenur investigates the conditions to create Paint through exercises, systems and procedures he can then repeat. He pursues a methodology that results in an outstanding artistic practice, hence brings a commitment to the work as a critique medium to relate to his world. For more than ten years Pelenur has been dedicated to travel the territory and obtain data that will allow him to continue painting/thinking. Map lover and drifts aficionado, explores geometries in the territory that later abstracts, reduces and composes.

Martín Pelenur is an Uruguayan / Argentinian artist based in La Barra, Punta del Este, Uruguay. He studied at La Fundación de Arte Contemporáneo in Montevideo. Pelenur’s work has been exhibited in the Rio de La Plata region and abroad. It has been the subject of individual and collective international exhibitions at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires, the Art Nexus Foundation in Bogotá, the Figari Museum in Montevideo, the Artemisa Gallery in New York, the Zielinsky Gallery in Barcelona and the Sayago & Pardon Foundation in Los Angeles. Pelenur has received numerous awards, among them the Project Bitácora of the Ministry of Culture and Education of Uruguay, the FEFCA Grant of the Ministry of Culture and Education of Uruguay and the Paul Cézanne Prize from the French Alliance in Montevideo.
