2021 Season I

Louis Bouvier (Canada)

Artist Statement/ Biography

Louis Bouvier believe art history is founded on an ensemble of categorizations which, despite their interdisciplinary and theoretical flexibility, still dictate meaning. At the same time, the separation between fine arts and artisanal crafts attests to a cultural heritage which, to varying degrees, affects the perception of objects and determines their hierarchical ranking. Through drawing, sculpture and installation his work proposes a radical deconstruction of these ideologies of classification, a way to de-systematize knowledge by regrouping different elements. Inspired by the micro-history of different objects his research has mobilized around the idea of anachronism, he uses a succession of artworks to express an alternative disjointed reality where found objects create works and photographic images meet to form new narratives.
