Season IV 2024
Letizia Scarpello (Italy)
Artist Statement/ Biography
The artist is interested in the fusion of fiction with reality, in representation as realisation, in a relationship of continuity with existing. This is why Letizia Scarpello often works for ephemeral installations, specifically conceived for a place in its historical moment, pursuing a vision that espouses ecology (understood as the reduction of dependence on matter) in artistic creation. With her projects she inscribes spatio-temporal reasoning in a series of signs that are at first two-dimensional, then three-dimensional, sometimes politically oriented, often purely geometric in appearance. She uses, however, a multifaceted language that in abstraction maintains a pictorial background, thanks to the manual technique that inherits its nobility from (family) upholstery and weaving.--
Letizia Scarpello (Pescara, 1989) lives and works in Italy. She studied Fashion in London and Set Design in Milan. Taking inspiration from theatre, as Letizia raised in a family of upholsterers since three generations, she has developed a visual language that mingles deep knowledge of the textile world with mankind attitudes and social environments. Letizia Scarpello took part to several artistic residencies like Viafarini in residence (Milan) and Highlights by The Blank Contemporary Art (Bergamo). In 2021 she won the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art AIR promoted by the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow and the Sala Santa Rita Award promoted by Azienda Speciale PALAEXPO in Rome. Her last solo exhibition was shown this year in Turin at A Pick Gallery, now representing the artist.
