Artist Statement/ Biography

Lauren Bakst is an artist and writer living in New York. She works in, with, and through dance, approaching the situation of performance and its ontological relationship to “the live” as an object of inquiry. Her works have been presented by SculptureCenter, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, Pioneer Works, and The Drawing Center, among others. Lauren is an editor of the Movement Research Performance Journal and teaches at University of the Arts in the School of Dance. She is currently working with effie bowen and Chanterelle Menashe Ribes on Private Collection, a personally-motivated performance-archive.
