Artist Statement/ Biography
Striving to find her voice as an artist, Laura feeds her curiosity by trying to formulate answers to matters she hasn’t fully untangled yet, leading her to explore diverse subjects and contexts before taking her back to her core: her family history. Through the exploration of her Chilean roots, Laura began surveying topics of migration, diaspora and transgenerational trauma that comes with it. This endless quest then became an integral part of her work. Her current project "The Ocean Is Closed On Mondays" is a visual approach on exploring what is lost through assimilation while reflecting on the challenges that come with Immigration in the Latinx Community in NYC.--
Laura Gauch is a Swiss Chilean visual artist focusing on photography and film. Her passion for capturing the world sprung during her teenage years and was carried to the present through the exploration of her Chilean heritage and familial background. Laura has a degree in Camera Arts from the University of Art and Design, Lucerne, Switzerland. Laura holds a degree in Camera Arts from the University of Art and Design in Lucerne, Switzerland. Her graduation documentary Shortfilm "Raíces" has been showcased in numerous festivals worldwide and has won awards such as "Best Documentary Shortfilm" at the Nova Frontier Festival in New York City. Through her work, Laura creates captivating compositions that blend documentary approach and aesthetic ambition.
