2021 Season II

Artist Statement/ Biography

Based on free flowing research and speculation Johanna investigates objects and structures of reality and culture and explores unwieldy concepts like language, perception of time and space, the creation of meaning, the construction of subjectivity and objecthood and the everyday perception and precipitation of these concepts in mundane life. She processes her ideas logically through methods like repetition, recursion and modularity, and associatively through humor and personal memories. Working in a variety of media including video, installation, painting and sculpture, one starting point can lead to multiple outcomes and works in different forms, which share ideas, aesthetics, or pictorial elements. She creates multiple points of access, through humor, consumer or seductive aesthetics, personal memories and piquing the viewer’s intellectual curiosity.
