Artist Statement/ Biography

Jaye Moon has worked with Legos as art medium since 1996. She believes that basic principles of people and cultures are the same, so she explores her identity through universal rather than cultural and racial aspects. Legos are based on mathematical principles and can transcend political, cultural and social tendencies. She also creates art with Braille. Braille is based on 6-dot binary code. Every language is interchangeable in the Braille system. The standardization of Lego pieces allows infinite number combinations. She uses these 2 universal math-based systems as a visual format to physically manifest the connection of people across different identities, backgrounds, and communities, and also to bring awareness to a language often overlooked by people who aren’t visually impaired.
