Artist Statement/ Biography

By collaging numerous videos and photos from different cities that she has collected, Hyemi Kim creates high-definition hybrid landscapes. From video to installation, she researches city structures and focuses on creating a complex digital utopia. Playfully destabilizing the boundaries of space and time, the busy and fantastic environment represents her scattered memories and experiences in contemporary life. Beneath the wealth of detail and activity, though, lies a sense of alienation, drawn from an immigrant’s experience of being lost between two homes.
