Artist Statement/ Biography
Ekin Balcıoglu makes site-oriented, project-based narrative work that engages people, place, language, and landscape. Her work deals with certain socio-political issues arising from current politics. It concentrates on issues of identity, immigration, and healing.

Ekin Balcıoglu is an artist based in New York who works in a variety of media including film, photography, painting, and installation. Ekin received dual degrees from California College of the Arts, MFA in Studio Arts and an MA in Visual & Critical Studies. Ekin has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout London, Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Sofia, San Francisco, and Oakland. Ekin is a recipient of IMPACT Social Entrepreneurship Award with the project “To Lemon Hill”. “To Lemon Hill” offers a Saturday tutoring program at Gelisim Collegiate in Izmir for Syrian refugee children where they will learn Turkish and English, among other subjects, with volunteer teachers and high school students. She is a recipient of Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Award.
