Artist Biography
Carolyn Salas's current work oscillates between abstraction and figuration, between site-specific works and sculpture. In her work she explores the "in-between" stages; the tension that lies both within the physical space and the psychological space. Salas received her B.F.A from The College of Santa Fe and her M.F.A from Hunter College. She has exhibited in the USA and internationally at Urbis, The City Center, UK, Gallery Zidoun, Luxembourg, Priska Juschka Fine Art, NY, Art Space, CT, Parisian Laundry, QC, the Berkshire Museum, MA, Casey Kaplan, NY, Torrance Art Museum, CA and the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, CA. Salas has been a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center, Santa Fe Art Institute, Blue Mountain Center, Jentel Artist Residency, Djerassi Art Residency, Franconia Sculpture Park, Chashama Studio Program and at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts. In 2011 Salas was a Rema Hort Mann Foundation grant nominee. This year Salas has been invited to attend the artist residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China. Ms. Salas currently teaches Sculpture at Yale University, she was appointed Lecturer in 2011.
