2014 Season III
Artist Statement
Carolina Paz is interested in the visual and poetic possibilities of objects she finds in intimate and domestic environments, such as cups, pillows, sewing threads, ropes, boxes, antique frames and so on. While attempting to explore their shapes, she is also interested in the actions related to those objects, such as cutting, tearing, covering, supporting, cleaning, drinking, etcetera and actions that aren’t directly related to them but are possible of being done with them, changing them and creating a “new object”. She searches for blanks, pauses, silences through punctual works, of frayed time, of an apparently indefinite epoch. They are displacements, fragments, representations in multiple languages – mainly sculpture, video and painting – that ask for the proximity and the slowing of the rhythm of the spectator.
