Rendering Intent utilizes idealized images derived from plans and lifestyle signage used outside new developments with custom cut plexiglass and sintra. The works in this exhibition counter these advertisements by creating new and unintended visual spaces. The frame's protective glazing is replaced by images of barriers found throughout Brooklyn to translate the picture frame into a cage. These works oscillate between the clean and sleek modern aesthetic of a condominium and the easily discarded political message. By eschewing different images, contexts, and materials, this body of work dissects how images of wealth are used to create disdain for new buildings that displace existing communities throughout New York City.
Ryan Oskin investigates the moments in between the formation and aging of architecture through photography, sculpture, and installation. He has had solo shows at the Rubber Factory and the Java Project in New York City. In addition, his work has been shown throughout the United States at Aperture Foundation, LVL3, Press Street, Newspace Center for Photography, and underneath the 6th Street Bridge with Cudahy + BBQ.LA. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Photography in 2012. He is a member of Art Against Displacement and currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.
