Bubble Orchestra

October 15 - November 5, 2021

Opening Reception: October 15, 6-8pm
NARS Main Gallery

Curated by Precog Magazine

With works by Adeniyi Ololade, Patricia Domínguez, Carlos Franco, Alison Kuo, Amiko Li, Umber Majeed, Anjuli Rathod, Ben Ross Davis, the Virtual Dream Center, and Blinn & Lambert.

Bubble Orchestra is the first physical exhibition based around Issue 5 of Precog Magazine. Bubble Orchestra prompts ideas about the concept and materiality of bubbles: as a metaphor for thinking through ideas of individuality and group cohesion; echo chambers and their tenuousness; algorithms; and the fragility of identity. Our aim in bringing together this group of “bubbles” is to see how they sing together; what kind of cacophony or harmony is achieved in the proximity of these individual projects.

Bubbles float through different material planes: rather than describe a specific material, they represent an enclosure or interruption of solid materiality. In this light, Bubble Orchestra at NARS extends a group of artists that have co-existed in print, and within an interactive digital space made in collaboration with the Virtual Dream Center, to a more expanded physical space. Ranging from 2-dimensional works to video, sculpture and the downloadable video game version of Issue 5, this exhibition brings together artists who think about our current reality through material propositions, dreams, and speculative futures inflected by reframed histories.
